Biography
Antoine Waked is a screenwriter, script consultant, and mentor with an extensive experience in Arab and international cinema. Since 2011, he has been a development executive at Abbout Productions, overseeing all project development. He co-founded and serves as artistic director of the Maskoon Fantastic Film Festival and Maskoon Fantastic Lab, both dedicated to Arab genre films. From 2021 to 2023, he was the director of the
cinema section at Alba University, where he had taught since 2005. He also teaches genre cinema at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg.
Waked has mentored at numerous screenwriting labs, including those run by the Doha Film Institute, First Cut Lab, Full Circle Lab Jakarta, Fondation Liban Cinema, FOCUS Script Cannes, Netflix Incubator Lab Brazil, and UK Next Wave Lab. He has curated Arab genre
retrospectives at festivals such as Sitges and Fantastic Fest.
As a filmmaker, Waked co-directed A Certain Nasser (2017), which won a Special Jury Award at the Cairo International Film Festival, and contributed to A Quintet (2014), which premiered in Sarajevo and The Key (2023) by Rakan Mayasi. He co-wrote and co-produced In This Darkness I See You, directed by Nadim Tabet.
