Biography

Quark Henares is a multi-awarded writer and director of films such as My Candidate, Rakenrol, and Keka, which Variety magazine reviewed as “a refreshing change of pace for Philippine cinema” and Quentin Tarantino called “a hell of a lot of fun”. Henares created the cult TV series Rakista for TV5 and has helmed music videos for everyone from Gary V. to Sandwich to Cheats. As the head of ANIMA, he has executive produced films like Dead Kids and Fan Girl and series like On The Job for HBO

Their most recent offerings On the Job: The Missing 8 competed at the 2021 Venice International Film Festival, the only Asian film in competition; Kun Maupay Man It Panahon won the Youth Jury Prize at the 2021 Locarno International Film Festival; and Leonor Will Never Die won the Special Jury Award: Innovative Spirit at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. Henares is also the director for .giff Festival of New Media. He is currently Head of Originals, Philippines, for Amazon Studios.
