First Cut Lab is pleased to workshop once again films from Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Romania in 2023 thanks to its cooperation, for the 3rd year in a row, with two major film festivals of Central and Eastern Europe:

– The Transilvania International Film Festival in Cluj (Romania) taking place on June 9-18.

– The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (Czech Republic) taking place on June 30-July 8.

Since 2015 First Cut Lab has been committed to fostering film talents from Central and Eastern Europe. Significantly, the 3 films submitted by Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania for the Oscars 2023 were all First Cut Lab alumni: Il Boemo by Petr Vaclav for Czech Republic, Victim by Michal Blasko for Slovakia, and Immaculat by Monica Stan & George Chiper-Lillemark for Romania.

In total, 4 Romanian films have already participated in First Cut Lab Cluj, including Between Revolutions by Vlad Petri (Berlinale 2023, Fipresci Award), and 4 Czech/Slovak films took part in First Cut Lab Karlovy Vary so far, notably Somewhere Over the Chemtrails (Czech Republic) by Adam Koloman Rybanský (Berlinale 2022, Panorama).
