Two First Cut Lab films to compete in the Sundance Film Festival!

Jan 19, 2022

Klondide directed by Maryna Er Gorbach (produced by Mehmet Bahadır Er, Protim V.P) and Leonor Will Never Die by Martika Escobar (produced by Monster Jimenez, Mario Cornejo, Arkeofilms)

The 38th edition of the largest film festival in the USA will be held from January 20 to 30, 2022. In its prestigious World Cinema Dramatic competition, made of 10 feature films only, we are delighted that 2 First Cut Lab films made the cut over thousands of entries.

Klondike is Maryna Er Gorbach’s feature film (Ukraine/Turkey), which takes place in the Donbas region near the Russian border in July 2014, and follows Irka and Tolik, a couple of villagers during the nervous anticipation of their first child’s birth. The film participated in First Cut Lab Istanbul 2021, in partnership with the Boğaziçi Film Festivali.

Leonor Will Never Die is Martika Ramirez Escobar’s feature film debut (Philippines), a surreal portrait of Leonor Reyes, once a major player in the Filipino film industry, who created a string of successful action films, but now struggles to pay the bills. The film participated in First Cut Lab Philippines 2020 (in the frame of Full Circle Lab Philippines), in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines.

Both films will premiere on the same day: January 21, 2022, and we are so much looking forward!
